In 2003, Coy Dog Films completed their first feature – the controversial and provocative “Looking Through Lillian” starring Sam Bottoms and Jade Henham. A young woman’s comfortable but empty existence as the mistress of a well-to-do businessman may change after her encounter with a handsome writer, but can she find the inner strength to escape her self-destructive path? An edgy indie psychological drama about an alluring but mixed up L.A. Girl who flip-flops between facing life’s uncertainty under her own direction of “the good life” provided by a wealthy, disturbing middle-aged benefactor. This moving psychological drama stars Jade Henham, Robert Glen Keith, Sam Bottoms, Essence Atkins.

The breakthrough film won awards at numerous festivals including Grand Prize for Drama at Houston where Sam Bottoms also received the Maverick Actor Award for his daring performance as Gene. In its Art House Theatrical run, Lillian received rave reviews from Chris Gore and Kevin Thomas of the L.A. Times who hailed the film as “Illuminating, Elegant and Sophisticated.”
